Derby Riverlights

Introduction

Hospitality Management International is a progressive and highly respected hotel operator, responsible for well known sites such as The
Ramada Docklands complex in central London.
Operating on behalf of Shiva Hotels, HMI embarked on an adventurous project at the Derby Riverlights complex where they would be operating side by side hotels under the respective brands of Holiday Inn (core brand) and Hampton by Hilton.
For such an adventurous development, HMI required a voice and data partner who could be trusted to deliver a unified solution to meet the exacting standards of both brands. They looked to Micron Communications, a trusted partner for many previous installations.

The implementation

Over two years of planning and negotiation was undertaken between owner, operator and Micron Communications to ensure that the respective solutions could be implemented within the constraints of both time and budget. Micron designed a unified voice and data solution for the Holiday Inn site which used Brilliant PMS and a Mitel 3300 communications platform as it's back bone. Connectivity was provided using Micron Talk's award winning voice and data connections over the core networks of BT and Gamma Telecom. The Hampton by Hilton site paired a Mitel 3300 communications system with their own OnQ property management system and again used the Micron Talk network for connectivity. The Hampton by Hilton site was also designed with integrated ‘My Micron Net' wireless networks for both staff and guest internet access.

The Process

Once specifications had been agreed and signed off, Micron project managed the design and installation of a Category 5e data network which would provide the backbone for the installation.
A pre opening office solution was installed using Inbound numbering technology allowing both sites to begin marketing themselves and distributing phone numbers far in advance of the opening of the site.
Upon completion of the data network Micron carried out comprehensive surveys of both sites to enable all forms of required connectivity. Micron built virtual sites at its base and carried out vigorous configuration and testing of every element of the solution. Once on site, the installation was a case of ‘plug in and play' followed by more vigorous testing for every possible scenario. The installation ran smoothly and without complication and the Micron team were in and out within a week.

Benefits to the client

Using Micron Communications for a complete voice and data solution allowed operators HMI to focus on the complex demands of opening parallel new build sites. Peace of mind came from knowing that all aspects of the voice and data networks were taken care of. Using a unified hospitality partner also meant that any teething problems could be quickly addressed by Micron Communications due to them having complete control of the entire voice and data network across both sites.

Conclusion

The partnership between HMI and Micron Communications proved to be highly successful once again as both installations were running smoothly and in time for the launch.
Hotel staff were trained to use the systems installed by Micron Communications engineers. Following the precision and quality of the installation at the Riverlights complex, Micron Communications was proud to be awarded the largest contract in its history, once again working with HMI to design and install a complete voice and data solution for the prestigious new core brand Hilton site at Terminal 5, Heathrow airport.
This site promises to be one of the finest hotels in the country and further confirms Micron Communications as one of the UK's leading hospitality voice and data providers.
